Laura Rains, LCSW
Take steps toward meaningful change in a strengths-based environment.
I have had the honor of working with parents, children, families, elders, couples, and individuals in many settings for over 25 years. I believe change is possible and that we heal better together. In my private practice at Yachats HealthCare, I support adults and elders with life transitions; empower parents, children, and families; help couples strengthen communication and understanding; and provide therapeutic support to individuals and groups.
In my other professional work, I coordinate training and implementation of GenerationPMTO parenting programs in the U.S. and internationally and co-author educational materials, journal articles, and book chapters.
Prior to moving to Yachats in 2015, some experiences that inform my work today include being a community mental health therapist (child, family, elders, long-term illness, hospice), working as a group leader and individual family therapist at Oregon Social Learning Center, volunteering as emotional support for people living with HIV/AIDS, and providing animal-assisted therapy with children, adults, and elders.
My educational background includes a Masters in Social Work from Portland State University and Masters degree in journalism, health education and sociology from the University of Oregon. I draw on therapeutic strategies from various traditions and evidence-based research, including GenerationPMTO (social interactional learning), systems, somatic, NLP, EMDR, the Grief Recovery Method, and always person-centered.
I look forward to working together to imagine new possibilities, collaborating with you on a path forward, and supporting meaningful change in your life. I listen carefully, hold hope, honor histories, and believe in change with all my heart.
